Too Much Sun? Here Are Our 4 Favorite After Sun Skincare Tips:

I love the sun, but I am also very fair skinned and 8 months pregnant so me and the sun aren’t the best of friends this summer. More than 30 minutes without a safe sunscreen and I’m one crispy, miserable gal. I wanted to share my 4 favorite tips with you for helping your skin when you might have had too much sun.

Cool Your Skin:

Over sunned skin can be hot to the touch and can even raise your internal body temperature making you even more miserable. Try soaking in a cool bath or applying a cold compress directly to your skin to provide instant soothing relief. Don't apply ice directly to the burn though or this can cause further damage.

Apply Aloe Vera:

Aloe is the perfect choice for all skin types because it moisturizes without being greasy or oily. Aloe is able to penetrate the thick levels of skin tissues and moisturize, not just sit on the surface. Aloe also contains multiple healing properties that help reduce inflammation, itchiness and provide extra soothing for sun burns. Use our ultimate skin soothing + healing Vitamin Boost Hydrating Face Mist  right after sun exposure. It’s made with a base of aloe and powerful bamboo extract that is anti-inflammatory and acts as a natural anti-biotic. It also helps the skin to heal quicker because it promotes cell growth and rejuvenation. Tip- Keep in the refrigerator for an extra refreshing and cooling experience.

Hydrate:

A sunburn draws fluid to the skin’s surface and away from the body. You may notice you are extra thirsty after a good ole sunburn so be sure to drink a lot of water. Even better, make a homemade electrolyte cocktail to restore all of the minerals you lost through heat and sweat. My favorite recipe is as follows: Combine 2 cups filtered water with the juice of ½ a lemon, ¼ teaspoon high quality sea salt, and 2 TB local raw honey. Mix everything together an enjoy.

Healing Oils:

Wait 24 hours and then begin applying moisture rich, healing oils like our Citrus Illuminating Raw Beauty Oil or Organic Coconut Oil to deeply moisturize and speed up the skin’s natural healing process. Our Citrus Illuminating Raw Beauty is made with a base of Organic Jojoba Oil (amongst several other miracle oils). A study done in the Pharmacological Research Journal found Jojoba oil to have similar anti-inflammatory activity to that of conventional NSAIDS, making it the perfect oil to aid in pain relief and reduce swelling/inflammation after a sun burn. For use on a sunburn apply our Citrus Oil to affected skin after you spritz Vitamin Boost Hydrating Mist. Do this twice daily.

A note on sunburn prevention:

Natural sun exposure is extremely important to our health and well-being. However, sun burns are no fun. It’s a delicate balance for some of us to make sure we are getting adequate, non-protected sun exposure to help our bodies produce Vitamin D, while also not burning and damaging our skin. I opt for wearing a sun hat, sunglasses and a safe sunscreen after I have been out for about 20 minutes or so.  Here are my favorite safe sunscreen recommendations >>  Badger Brand Sunscreen, Solara and Raw Love.
